Take Action: August 19-20, 2017 Letters of Gratitude

Here are a couple of ideas for gratitude letters you and your family might consider writing over the weekend.

  • Jennifer Rubin writes the Right Turn blog at the Washington Post. She’s a Republican, and she’s been a vocal critic of Trump since he was a birther. Rubin has the moral courage that others in her party lack, and she didn’t just wake up to it yesterday. Read one of her recent posts here.  We can thank her for being a voice of reason. • Shaun King consistently uses social media to stand up against police brutality, racial discrimination, and other civil rights issues and creates much needed discussion around social justice and equality. This week, he’s leading a search via Twitter and Facebook to identify and bring to justice the white supremacists that beat a young Black man named Deandre Harris during the rally in Charlottesville. We need more leaders like King so let’s send him some thank you postcards to keep up the good work. (HT Postcards from Kate)

  • On Tuesday, Aug. 22, Trump has another rally scheduled, this time in Phoenix. (Rogan’s List encourages signing up for tickets…then not attending.) There is some question whether the rally will actually happen: the mayor has asked Trump, in light of the volatility caused by Charlottesville, that he delay his visit. Mayor Greg Stanton said, “If President Trump is coming to Phoenix to announce a pardon for former Sheriff Joe Arpaio, then it will be clear that his true intent is to enflame emotions and further divide our nation.”  (HT Rogan’s List)  We can thank Stanton for his foresight: https://www.phoenix.gov/mayor/contact-mayor-stanton
  • PayPal is taking action against more than three dozen hate groups and other extremist organizations, sources close to the payments company told CBS MoneyWatch on Wednesday. The move follows this weekend’s violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.” Let’s thank Paypal:

  • Rogan’s List had this to say: “The Church of the Latter-day Saints (LDS) issued a statement regarding the Mormon church’s position on white supremacists: “White supremacist attitudes are morally wrong and sinful, and we condemn them” and Mormons who “promote or pursue a ‘white culture’ or white supremacy agenda,” the statement said, “are not in harmony with the teachings of the church.” http://www.deseretnews.com/…/LDS-Church-issues… We can send postcards of support to: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 50 N West Temple, Salt Lake City UT 84150.”
