Please pray for all those involved in the shooting that targeted congressional representatives and staffers this morning and for the resilience of our political institutions in these deeply troubling times. Please also express sympathy and prayers in calls made to all senators and representatives this week.
MWEG will be delivering purple tulips to the offices of representatives who were present this morning (as well as the office of the Capitol Police) to let them know that, while we do not always agree with their positions on the issues and may even flood their phone lines with calls of frustration, we are deeply grateful for their public service and we absolutely condemn any form of violence as a means of political persuasion. We greatly honor our political institutions and we express our sincerest sympathy, gratitude, and prayers.
We take this opportunity to join with representatives from both parties in a renewed effort toward unity and civility. And we take great inspiration and courage from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who said, “We must work unceasingly to lift this nation that we love to a higher destiny, to a new plateau of compassion, to a more noble expression of humaneness.”
