State Specific CTA
Updated 8/7/2020
There is much that your state must do to prepare for a safe general election for voters and poll workers during this pandemic. In this letter, you are asking your election officials to maintain an adequate number of in-person polling locations, help recruit younger poll workers, establish an early voting period at least two weeks before election day, and expand polling hours on election day. These changes will help increase access to the vote during this pandemic and protect the health of voters and poll workers.
Use the following prompt to create your letter. You can copy and paste it into the website link for your state’s election official. Access your official's website by clicking the link below. Thank you for helping us Protect The Vote! Louisiana & Mississippi letter prompts can be found below.
Louisiana Letter Prompt:
As a voter in Louisiana, I am concerned about how the COVID-19 pandemic will affect our ability to safely vote at the polls during the upcoming general election. This is especially worrisome to me, knowing that we are one of only 9 states left in the country who has excuse-only absentee voting and has not yet made an exception to that rule during this pandemic.
I am writing to ask that you make the necessary changes, as soon as possible, to adopt no-excuse absentee voting for the general election. Or, as any alternative, we must have fear of contracting or transmitting COVID-19 recognized as a valid excuse for requesting to vote by absentee ballot. Many states have already taken this important step, including Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Our state must be next.
Such a change would allow more voters to cast their vote in a safe and secure manner for the general election, without fear for their health and well-being. I believe that equitable access to the vote is the cornerstone of our democracy. I urge you to do your part to protect our ability to vote safely during this pandemic.
Respectfully,
