Take Action: August 8, 2017 Support legal immigration

The Trump administration and two Republican senators have unveiled a plan to cut LEGAL immigration in half. (You can see whether you would qualify here.)

  • Send our MoCs a copy of Emma Lazarus’ New Colossus (the poem at the base of the Statue of Liberty, text here and let them know what this country stands for.
  • Also send a copy to Stephen Miller, the White House aide who said during a press conference that the poem is not an original part of the statue and discounted its meaning. The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20500
  • Thank Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) for opposing the president’s efforts to restrict immigration and diversity of skills. Address: 130 South Main Street, 7th Floor, Greenville, SC 29601

In a separate attack on legal immigration, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has continued to deny visas to the visa lottery program winners from six countries since the Supreme Court ruled on the limited travel ban in June/ If the winners do not have their visas by September 30th, six days after the ban ends, then the visas will expire and they will lose any realistic chance of acquiring a visa to the U.S. Let Tillerson know how you feel about his refusal to issue visas: U.S. Department of State, 2201 C Street NW, Washington, DC 20520. Additionally, the ACLU sued Tillerson for his refusal to issue the visas. If you support this, send the ACLU a “thank you” for their continued efforts in defending immigrants’ rights: 125 Broad Street, 18th Floor, New York NY 10004, 212-549-2500.
