Take Action: September 16, 2017 Celebrate Constitution Week

When people gathered outside of the assembly hall and the Founders came outside, someone asked Benjamin Franklin what kind of government they had given them. His answer? “A Republic— if you can keep it.”

How are We the People doing at this?  As Constitution Week is observed next week, let us take some time to re-familiarize ourselves with foundational document to our American democracy.  A few ideas shared by members of Mormon Women for Ethical Government include:

  • This website goes through each section (preamble, articles, amendments), gives the text, and offers some perspectives on matters of debate.  One ideas is to read each section and discuss them as one might do for a book club.
  • A More Perfect Union was produced by Brigham Young University and dramatizes the events of the Constitutional Convention.  It is appropriate for teens and older
  • Shh! We’re Writing the Constitution by Jean Fritz is a good fit for kids approximately grades 2-5.
  • iCivics strives to “teach students civics and inspire them to be active participants in our democracy.”

What other resources can you utilize to teach your family, friends, and self more about our Constitution?
