Take Action: September 8, 2017 Prevent further healthcare shortages

Today is the last day for members of Congress to sign on to the bipartisan “Dear Colleague Letter,” written by Representatives G. K. Butterfield (D) and Chris Stewart (R). Together, they call on Congress to renew funding for the National Health Service Corps (NHSC), which is set to expire October 1.  This funding is a crucial link in providing medical care to traditionally under-served areas like rural health clinics and prisons. Unless Congress acts, thousands of NHSC providers, facing a huge debt burden, will have no choice but to leave the areas of the country that need them most, in order to practice where they can make enough to pay off their student loans. Millions of people – insured and uninsured – will find themselves with no one in their communities to provide their health care.

We need every Member of Congress who supports the NHSC to sign the Stewart/Butterfield letter. The future of the NHSC hangs in the balance.  Ask your member of Congress to sign on to the Dear Colleague letter by Representatives Butterfield and Stewart today!
