Michalyn Steele

BYU Law professor

Michalyn Steele is the Marion G. Romney Professor of Law at BYU Law, where she teaches constitutional law, federal Indian law, and civil rights. Her scholarship has appeared in the Harvard Law Review, the New York University Law Review, the UCLA Law Review, and other leading journals.


After working at a D.C. firm representing Indian tribes, Professor Steele was a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice's civil rights division. Professor Steele also worked as a counselor to the assistant secretary for Indian Affairs in the U.S. Department of the Interior.


Professor Steele earned a J.D. from Georgetown and a B.A. and M.A. in humanities from BYU.
