If we wish to live in a peaceful society, we have an obligation to help create it. This includes refusing to discount or condone words that call for violent solutions to legitimate political disagreements, and speaking up for those who defend the rule of law. We will continue to call on our political leaders to operate within the bounds of the Constitution, and we resolve to support those who speak and act in its defense.

Today, the people of Utah are getting what we voted for seven years ago — a fair map! This effort marks the culmination of efforts by countless citizens, and today, we see that when people come together across party and ideological lines, we can make change.

We have watched with grave concern as the current administration increasingly exhibits coordinated enmity toward citizens, using dehumanizing language and even calling for violence against those who express opposition to its agenda.

On Sunday, our fellow Church members in Grand Blanc, Michigan, were attacked during their worship service. As aspiring peacemakers, we are always troubled when we see targeted violence and were heartbroken to see members of our own faith, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, experience such brutality as they worshipped.

As an organization committed to ethical government, MWEG opposes gerrymandering under any and all circumstances. Our position on this issue has been consistent, and it is deeply rooted in our nonpartisanship.

In recent days, the president and members of his Cabinet have made unprecedented and unfounded attacks on a former president and other public officials. These have escalated into real threats of prosecution and imprisonment and were accompanied by a deepfake AI video and image portraying an arrest.

Utah Sen. Mike Lee’s online comments masked and minimized the devastation of the shootings. He capitalized on a tragedy to score political points, and he demonstrated a callous indifference to the loss of life.

Our nation will thrive in peace as we view one another with dignity and humanity. We must not forget that this peace is always within our reach. It is up to us to build it.

In two executive orders issued on April 9, 2025, President Donald Trump continued to push false claims about the 2020 election and targeted those who have said the 2020 presidential election was free, fair, and secure.
