Utah Sen. Mike Lee’s online comments masked and minimized the devastation of the shootings. He capitalized on a tragedy to score political points, and he demonstrated a callous indifference to the loss of life.

Our nation will thrive in peace as we view one another with dignity and humanity. We must not forget that this peace is always within our reach. It is up to us to build it.

We condemn political violence — it is unacceptable in any form. It threatens our way of life and undermines the strength of our country.
