Faith Leaders Urge Congress to Advance DEFIANCE Act on AI Deepfakes

Last year, Mormon Women for Ethical Government was honored to join Word & Wisdom: Faith for an Ethical AI, a cross-denominational coalition of Christian leaders and organizations working to advocate for AI ethics and safety. This move corresponded with MWEG's interests in promoting democratic values, family health and well-being, environmental sustainability, and media literacy.

In February, MWEG signed on to a letter with other Word & Wisdom coalition members to promote the DEFIANCE Act, which has already passed the Senate. The DEFIANCE Act provides legal recourse for those who have been the target of sexually explicit, AI-generated deepfakes without their consent, and we believe the bill can become an important tool in protecting women, children, and others from such abuse.
