SIFT: help stop the spread of misinformation

Before you share a meme, tweet, or story... SIFT

Stop: Especially if it makes you feel a strong emotion.

Investigate the source: Do a quick search on the source of the information to see if it's coming from an expert or reputable outlet.

Find better coverage: If it doesn't come from a reliable source, find what other sources are saying. If it's breaking news, wait a few hours to see if other outlets verify the information.

Trace claims, quotes, and media to the original context: Make sure the media is used accurately. Check the date, and make sure it's actually from the originally sourced story.
