5-Day Call to Action: Pray and Act for Truth

call to action Jan 27, 2020

Each day this week, please do something to stand for truth. Set a reminder on your phone to help you remember. Check back here each day for a new prompt.

Every day (Monday–Friday), do these three things:

  1. Read this piece by MWEG member Elizabeth Davis-Edwards and then get on your knees and pray for the United States and for truth as she so beautifully advises.
  2. Pick up your phone and call your senators to tell them you support a full and fair impeachment trial with pertinent witnesses...

Call to Action: Full and Fair Impeachment Trial

call to action education Jan 21, 2020

As the impeachment trial begins in the Senate today, we reaffirm our position that anything less than a full and fair impeachment trial, including pertinent witnesses and evidence, will be a violation of oaths taken by U.S. senators. Early analysis of the rules set forth by the McConnell resolution is deeply troubling; they ignore established procedures for admitting evidence and calling witnesses. They are designed to hide rather than expose the truth. Because the resolution allows for...

Urgent Call to Action: Proposed Fee Increase by USCIS

call to action education Dec 10, 2019

On November 14, 2019, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) proposed a fee schedule adjustment that would drastically increase fees for naturalization, asylum, DACA, work permits, and more. The proposed rule would also eliminate fee waivers for citizenship, lawful permanent residency, employment authorization, and other applications. In addition, it would increase fees for obtaining family history records through USCIS by 500% — a move that would have a significantly...

Urgent Call to Action: Immigration Detention

call to action education Dec 06, 2019

Here’s one quick and simple thing you can do right now if you’re feeling heartbroken and enraged at news of another child’s tragic and unnecessary death in immigration detention.

Call the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection and demand that they follow the CDC recommendations for giving migrants the flu vaccine. Then encourage two or three other people to call as well.

DHS Office of Inspector General: 1-800-323-8603
(Just FYI, they will ask for...

Call to Action: Call Your Representatives About Migrant Protection Protocol

Last week MWEG introduced the Principles of Ethical Government. One of the three guiding principles is responsibility — that “all human beings are mutually accountable to their fellow human beings.” We believe we will be held responsible by our Heavenly Parents for how we treat each other or allow others to be treated. This is no less true of how we are treating our brothers and sisters south of the border who are suffering in Mexico as they wait for asylum to be granted.

Call to Action: Encourage Your Governor to Accept Refugees in Your State!

call to action education Nov 04, 2019

Governor Gary Herbert of Utah sent the letter below to President Trump, asking him to continue to allow refugees to be resettled in Utah. This is in response to the President’s executive order, which places the onus of accepting refugees on state and local governments. Governor Herbert’s response was swift and clear and a model for other governors to follow.

Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was himself...

Call to Action: Pray for the United States and Its Leaders

call to action education Oct 21, 2019

Follow the direct admonition of President M. Russell Ballard, who said: “I invite you to join in a new movement. Invite your neighbors, your colleagues, your friends on social media to pray for this country.” We support President Ballard, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in this call and acknowledge his role as a watchman on the tower. Sustained and focused prayer is not passive. It not only calls down the...

Call to Action: GRACE Act

call to action education Oct 01, 2019

The Guaranteed Refugee Admission Ceiling Enhancement (GRACE) Act is critical legislation to ensure the successful resettling of refugees seeking a safe haven in the United States. These refugees have already beenselected by the UN Refugee Agency. The GRACE Act sets a required resettlement floor (meaning an admissions minimum) of 95,000 refugees. This number better reflects the United States’ historical threshold for accepting refugees and shows a flexible response to the drastic rise in...

Llamado Urgente a la Acción para el Reasentamiento de Refugiados

call to action education Oct 01, 2019
